Paradox Alarm Interface (PAI)

Connect a Paradox alarm panel to Home Assistant, Homebridge, OpenHAB, or another MQTT client.

This guide describes PAI 3.8.1. Home Assistant add-on versions and available settings are managed separately.

Start here

  1. Check panel compatibility.
  2. Choose a connection method.
  3. Install PAI and configure it.
  4. Connect Home Assistant or another interface below.

Requirements

Requirement Notes
Panel Spectra/Magellan or EVO; MG6250 has login-only support
Connection Native serial, IP100/IP150, serial over TCP, or a compatible PRT3 module
Credentials PC password for native serial/IP; PRT3 uses a panel user code for disarming
Runtime Python 3.9+ for manual installs, or a supported Docker host
MQTT broker Required for MQTT integrations; not bundled with PAI

Integrations and interfaces

Goal Guide
MQTT states and commands MQTT interface
Home Assistant discovery Integration / add-on installation
Apple HomeKit Homebridge
OpenHAB OpenHAB
Notifications Pushover, Pushbullet, Signal and GSM
Notification selection Event filtering
Temporary Babyware access through PAI IP interface
PRT3 setup and limitations PRT3
EVO expansion-module outputs Module PGMs

Upgrading to 3.8.x

  • Python 3.8 and older are no longer supported.
  • Docker images no longer target ARMv6 or 32-bit x86.
  • Home Assistant groups zone entities under individual zone devices. Check device-based automations after upgrading.
  • Encrypted EVO serial is now supported for the full-AES protocol; firmware compatibility still matters.

See release notes and troubleshooting. Do not upgrade panel firmware solely to match a software example.

MQTT Dash

The optional legacy dashboard requires MQTT_DASH_PUBLISH: true, a readable template at MQTT_DASH_TEMPLATE, and at least two loaded partitions. Subscribe the app to metrics/exchange/pai (or MQTT_DASH_TOPIC). It is not required for normal MQTT or Home Assistant use.
