Ticket scope and handling .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/SKILL.md, .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/README.md |
The guidance includes tickets naming vulnerable packages even when they lack a recommended fix version. It describes advisory-based target selection and No-op and Skipped outcomes. |
Reporting and close verification .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/SKILL.md |
The guidance specifies Asked for values for advisory-derived targets and affected ranges in close-list entries. It requires verifying that installed versions on main are outside the advisory range or that the package is absent. |

Before / after behavior
- observed — Modified behavior in .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/README.md: The scope now includes Semgrep tickets about vulnerable dependencies without a recommended fix version. Their fix version comes from the advisory; they are closed as No-op when the package is gone or already patched, and left open for a human when no fixed release exists or the advisory has no usable affected range.
- observed — Modified behavior in .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/SKILL.md: The stated Semgrep scope now includes only tickets about vulnerable dependencies, whether or not they specify a fix version; code and configuration findings are excluded. The prior scope covered tickets only when a package upgrade could fix them.
- observed — Modified behavior in .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/SKILL.md: The
Asked fortable guidance now covers advisory-derived targets: use the advisory’s affected range when a no-target ticket is No-op or has no fixed release, and useunknownif the advisory provides no usable range. - observed — Modified behavior in .claude/skills/batch-deps-upgrade/SKILL.md: Close-list entries for tickets whose target came from an advisory now record the affected range instead of a fix version. Examples cover one or multiple installed versions and a package that is no longer installed.

Documentation-only change to the batch-deps-upgrade skill, updating how Semgrep tickets without an explicit fix version are handled (take it from the advisory instead of dropping the ticket). The wording is mostly consistent across README.md and SKILL.md, but one sentence in SKILL.md still contradicts the very rule the MR is introducing.

Documentation-only change to the batch-deps-upgrade skill, updating scope and handling rules for Semgrep tickets that lack a fix version. The logic (deriving fix version from the GHSA advisory, No-op/Skipped classification, close-list evidence format) is internally consistent and the worked examples check out mathematically. One gap: the new 'Asked for' column rule only says what to fill in when the no-fix-version ticket is already No-op, but doesn't say what to put when such a ticket is Skipped (no patched release or no usable range), leaving that case ambiguous for whoever runs the skill.

This MR only edits two markdown documentation files (SKILL.md and README.md) for the batch-deps-upgrade skill — no executable code is touched. The new instructions (taking a fix version from a ticket's GHSA advisory when the ticket omits one, classifying No-op/Skipped, and recording range evidence for the closing run) are internally consistent across both files: the scope statement, the JIRA-query section, the 'Asked for' column definition, and the closing-verification step all agree with each other, and the worked examples of range comparisons (e.g. 'installed 3.0.3 (outside < 3.0.3)', 'not installed (≤ 2.88.2)') check out arithmetically. I did not find any correctness, security, or logic issues worth flagging in the changed lines.
High Level Overview of Change
Updates the
/batch-deps-upgradeskill so Semgrep package tickets without a fix version are handled instead of silently dropped.Recommended fix versionnow stays a row. The skill takes its fix version from the ticket's GitHub advisory (GHSA) — the first patched version on the installed major line, or on a higher major if that line has none — and handles it like any other ticket.installed 3.0.3 (outside < 3.0.3),not installed (≤ 2.88.2)), and the closing run verifies them againstmainthe same way.SKILL.mdandREADME.mdare updated to match.Context of Change
The skill previously kept only tickets naming both a package and a fix version, and dropped everything else as out of scope. Some package tickets have no fix-version line — older GitLab-scan tickets use a format without it, and some advisories have no patched release — so they never became rows, never reached the close list, and stayed open in JIRA every quarter, even when nothing vulnerable was installed.
Two real cases:
request) was dropped in the 2026-Q3 batch, althoughrequesthad left the lockfile with the lerna v8 upgrade (Upgrade lerna to v8 #3156). It was closed by hand. The fix version comes from the advisory rather than from the ticket's
Current versionbecause the ticket is a snapshot of one scan, while the advisory lists every affected range and its patched version.Type of Change

Test Plan
This PR changes the skill's instructions only; no library code or tests are affected, and the skill has not been re-run end to end with the new rule. The rule was checked by applying it by hand to the real tickets above, reading each advisory with
gh api /advisories/<GHSA-id>:requestis not installed → No-op.The next quarterly run is the end-to-end check: tickets without a fix version should appear as rows in the Semgrep table and, when satisfied, on the close list.
