Summary

My Egeria (My Profile) updates: fixes from the PDR team call on 2026-10-30, plus two bug fixes.

  • Edit Profile now saves to Egeria (EditElementsScreens.py, my_egeria.py, elements_crud_handler.py):
    • Egeria rejected the update with OMAG-REPOSITORY-HANDLER-400-008 because the sample profiles come from the Coco Pharmaceuticals content pack. Only a request naming that source can change them. The update now sends externalSourceGUID / externalSourceName, taken from the profile's own elementHeader.origin, whenever the profile didn't originate locally.
    • The screen caught the error and dismissed silently. It now shows "Profile saved to Egeria" or the real error.
    • The form now fills its fields from the raw Person properties (givenNames, pronouns, timeZone, ...). It used to read them from the My-User-MD DICT, which only has display labels, so most fields opened blank.
    • The update no longer rebuilds qualifiedName (it would have replaced Person::NL::199995 with Person199995NLGaryGeeke), and no longer copies Preferred Name into fullName. The merge update keeps the existing values.
    • After a save the app reloads the profile, so the main screen and the next Edit Profile show the new values.
  • Technology Types Back goes to the tree (tech_types_handler.py): Back (Escape) on a type's templates and processes screen used to land on the main screen. The tree closes itself when a type is selected, so it is now re-opened from the hierarchy already fetched. q (Main Menu) still goes to the main screen.
  • Work with Communities (community_handler.py, CommunitiesScreen.py, CommunityScreen.py):
    • New Create Community form. It checks for a duplicate name and links the user as Leader, Contributor or Observer, or not at all.
    • Members are listed as people only, including people who belong through community roles.
  • Consistent screen headings: the new set_screen_heading() in profile_utils.py gives every screen the title Egeria - <context> and the sub-title User: <user>, Karma Points: <points>.
  • Diagnostic logging off: the app's self.log(...) calls are commented out across all modules.
  • UI tidy-ups: more visible UI elements (my_profile.tcss) and a reordered Other Functions menu on the main screen.
  • Docs: docs/My-Egeria-Doc.md, docs/my_egeria_manual.md and tests/micro-tests/my_profile/README.md updated.

Test plan

  • pytest tests/micro-tests/my_profile: 630 passed, 1 skipped
  • New and updated tests in test_community_handler.py, test_profile_utils.py, test_my_egeria.py, test_elements_crud_handler.py and test_tech_types_handler.py. The last now checks that Back re-opens the technology types tree.
  • Edit Profile run headlessly against a live server (localhost:9443): fields fill in correctly, the save returns 200, and a re-fetch shows the new values with qualifiedName and fullName unchanged
  • Technology Types run headlessly against a live server: tree → select a type → Escape returns to the tree → q returns to the main screen
