x-p-stream no longer requires to be mandatory header if found in header, use that for ingestion
else, use default stream name

arbitrary logs - default_logs
otel logs - default_otel_logs
otel traces - default_otel_traces
otel metrics - default_otel_metrics

with this change, otel collector config simplifies as one exporter config works instead of config for each telemetry type

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Ingestion requests can now omit the stream name; a suitable default is selected based on the request path or telemetry type.
    • Requests without a stream name can use the path-derived default for authorization.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Invalid stream-name headers are handled consistently. Kinesis requests with a valid authorization header can proceed without a stream-name header.

Walkthrough

Ingestion handlers now use default stream names when X-P-Stream is absent. Middleware accepts optional stream headers and uses request paths to select defaults for ingestion authorization.

Changes

Stream Defaults and Header Handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stream default selection
src/handlers/mod.rs
Adds default stream names, a helper to parse the stream header with a fallback, and path-based default selection.
Optional stream headers in middleware
src/handlers/http/middleware.rs
Kinesis extraction accepts a missing stream header. Ingestion authorization uses a path-derived default when the header is unavailable or invalid. Tests cover missing and supplied stream names.
Stream resolution in ingestion handlers
src/handlers/http/ingest.rs
Log ingestion uses the general default when the stream header is absent. OTEL ingestion selects a default based on the log source.

Reject invalid Kinesis stream attributes before JSON fallback.

When X-P-Stream cannot be converted to an HTTP header, extract_kinesis_headers returns before inserting LOG_SOURCE_KEY. With valid independent authorization, the request then uses default_logs and LogSource::Json. The valid Kinesis envelope can be stored as one ordinary JSON record, so records[*].data is not base64-decoded into Kinesis records.

Return and propagate a header error instead of silently returning.
